New to Friedens?
Brandon grew up in northeast Missouri. For much of his life, Brandon’s passion was cars. In pursuit of this passion, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering Technology from Minnesota State University-Mankato. However, during Brandon’s sophomore year of college, he learned about the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ and committed his life to following Christ. As Brandon got more involved in ministry on campus and in his church, God changed his passion from cars to helping others grow as Christ-followers. After graduating from college, Brandon served on the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ at North Dakota State University for three years. During this time, Brandon met and married his wife, Shelly. After they got married, Brandon and Shelly moved to Illinois, where Brandon received a Masters of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. After graduating in 2009, Brandon began serving as Senior Pastor at Friedens.
Besides helping the people of Friedens grow as followers of Christ, Brandon also enjoys spending time with his family, which now includes his son, Mikias, and daughter, Tehila. He also enjoys reading, hanging out with friends, and being outdoors, whether it’s working in the yard, bicycling, running, hiking or snow skiing.
Pastor of Student Ministries
David grew up near Port Washington and has attended Friedens Church throughout his life. Through his participation in Friedens’ youth group during as a student, David realized that God was calling him into youth ministry. After graduating from high school, David attended Moody Bible Institute and studied youth ministry. During his junior and senior years at Moody, David began traveling home on weekends to lead Friedens’ youth group. During this time, David met his wife, Charissa, and they were married in January 2009. The day after graduating in May 2009, David began serving as Pastor of Student Ministries at Friedens.
In addition to helping students take their faith seriously enough to live it out and share it with others, David enjoys spending time with his family, which now includes his sons, Luke and Jackson and daughter Alethea. He also enjoys playing guitar, watching football, playing board games, and drinking coffee.
Worship Team Leader
Charissa was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but her family moved to the Milwaukee area when she was eight months old. As a pastor’s daughter, Charissa was discipled by her parents from an early age and affirmed her personal commitment to follow Christ in Junior High. Her parents planted a church when she was four, which gave her significant exposure to church life from an early age. As a teenager, Charissa was immersed in ministry, particularly through singing, playing piano, and even helping plan worship services. After high school, Charissa attended Northwestern College, where she majored in Music and Bible. After college, Charissa began working as a part-time worship and choir director at Friedens Church and also taught private music lessons. Desiring to work in ministry full time, she accepted a position at the Sheboygan Evangelical Free Church a year later. In 2009, Charissa married David Toeller, who was (and is) Friedens’ Pastor of Student Ministries. When their son, Luke, was born, Charissa “retired” from the church in Sheboygan. A few months later, she began serving as Friedens’ part-time worship leader. Since then Charissa and David welcomed home another son, Jackson and a daughter, Alethea.
Charissa enjoys reading and traveling. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends, whether it’s going on long walks, reading board books, or playing games. She is also beginning to enjoy cooking, especially learning how to sneak vegetables into her recipes for her picky eaters.
Heidi was born in Saukville and raised in Port Washington. After High School she pursued a degree in Business Administration from UW Oshkosh. She worked several years in the corporate world and during that time married her husband, Adam. A few years later, after the birth of their daughter Eva, she wanted a position that would allow for more family time. Heidi then joined the Friedens team in January of 2011. In addition to Eva, Heidi and Adam now have another daughter, Lily and a son, Eli.
Besides spending time with her family, Heidi enjoys taking walks with their dog Isabelle, baking, and traveling.
